Yvoire, France 6May 2008
|
|
We received two guests during the weekend. It was Abah's friend from Toulose, France... kawan who used to be in the same school kat Selama and worked for the same company... he came with his wife, Noora, who was visiting him for few weeks... On Saturday, we just took them around Geneva..starts pun lambat coz Abah got a bowling tournament for the ASEAN games... initially tought that it wud not take that long... rupanya this year ramai participant and that ladies main dulu.. so by the time Abah balik it was already 3pm... luckily siang panjang...
On Sunday, we took them for a tour around Lake Geneva (dlm 50km diameter)... we singgah few towns ... the first town was Yvoire... it was the second time for abah and Ashraf but for Ibu and Afif, it was the first time....
A bit info on Yvoire from Wikipedia:
| Quote: | | Yvoire is a village and commune on the south shore of Lake Geneva in the French département of Haute-Savoie.It is well known for its medieval buildings and beautiful flower decoration during the summer season. It is a very attractive little village, dating back some 700 years. The stone doors through the ramparts, and the chateau (only the keep remains), are existing remnants of this earlier more turbulent time.Being located at the tip of the Leman peninsula (presqu'île de Léman), Yvoire delimits the two main parts of the Lake Geneva, the "petit lac" and the "grand lac". Nowadays Yvoire is a town of medieval architecture, artisans and cafes, and above all, lovely views out across the Lake. But also of flowers - the town has won numerous awards for its flower displays, and attracts many visitors as a result. Yvoire received its first prize in the national competition for the best kept villages in 1959 and the rewards followed over the years. Now ranked as “Four Flowers”, the village represented France in 2002 at the European level and received the International Trophy for Landscape and Horticulture. |

Kids and Sand
|
|
Yesterday, at Carrefour, we bought a sandpit and also sand for the kids to play with... sampai jer rumah terus main...leka sungguh sampai panggil masuk semua mengamuk esp the youngest one... Today, after fetching Ashraf from school, he asked permission to play with the sandpit.. since I got Mother's day present from him tadi, hati lembut pun bagi but with syarat that they have to wear hats coz nanti kulit burn plak... lepas tu best friends next house pun join except for Fatihah yang still dlm walker... It took them quite a while to get them in... again Afif make a fuss of going into the house... tapi kejap sbb outof sandpit into the bathtub... main air plak...
Afif with his new hat
Afif, Ashraf, Haris and Karlis leka main pasir
Another angle of kids and sand
Afif, Ashraf, Haris and Karlis leka main pasir
Ashraf hilang to fetch more toys for the sand
Sukanya Ashraf
Fatihah kene duduk dlm rumah
Afif tengah geram with sand
Tabur, jangan tak tabur
Sampai begitu sekali leka main sand with train
Rest from sand, explore the garden

Rhein Fall, Schauffhausen and Neuhausen am Rheinfall 27Apr 2008
|
|
The next day, we departed from Etap Hotel around 9am and headed straight to Schauffhausen. Tapi before that singgah sebentar dekat R&R Coop Marche for breakfast... ingatkan sekejap but web lepak for more than 1hr.. reason ada kids playarea and the boys were so engrossed with the train sets there.. never mind, we got all time so no rushing to go to Schauffhausen....
There two towns that bersempadan with Rheinfalls, the Neuhausen am Rheinfall where we parked our car and Schaffhausen... Sampainya je kat Neuhausen am Rheinfall, we all dah dengar bunyi derusan air terjun... so,so beautiful... it was large although not as large and as high as Niagara Falls (Been there...) tapi memang breathtaking laaa.. it also have the same boat ride to the fall but people can depart from the boat and land on Kanzeli which is a big boulder in between the falls. It was said to be more magnificent laa kalau naik situ tp sbb bawa budak and it was quite steep, we all tak naik pun.. just have a stroll along the falls dari sudut depan sampailaa belakang falls.. quite jauh gak jalan and we cross the bridge across the falls to the route ke the medieval castle ‘Schloss Laufen’. around dlm one hour walking laa... weather was nice, the view was breathtaking... what a way to spend spring season kan...
Info on Rhine Fall from Wikipedia:
| Quote: | | The Rhine Falls (Rheinfall in Switzerland ) are the largest plain waterfalls of Europe. They are located in the High Rhine upper course of the river Rhine, in the municipalities of Neuhausen am Rheinfall and Laufen-Uhwiesen, near the town of Schaffhausen in northern Switzerland and close to the German border. They are 150 m (450 ft) wide and 23 m (75 ft) high. In the winter months, the average water flow is 250 m³/s, while in the summer, the average water flow is 600 m³/s. The Rhine Falls were formed in the last ice age approximately 14,000 to 17,000 years ago. |

Zurich 26April 2008
|
|
Last weekend, we went to visit few towns in Northern Switzerland. We did some errand at Muttenz, near Basel and from then on, shopping at Aarau followed by meeting with Abah's friend in Zurich and the next day, visiting the Rheinfall near German border called Schaffhausen.
What else people go to Aarau other than shopping at Bally Factory Outlet.. the last time we went, it did not have sale... This time maybe our rezeki laaa coz ada super sale a bit... Manage to grab myself a pair of courtshoe and a pair of mocassin.. si Abah plak dapat laa two pairs of working shoes.... murah laaa kalau compared to KL..
After that, we went to check-in into Etap Hotel at Zurich. Leave our thing there and went to explore Zurich old town.. but before that we went to Nordsee (our fave restaurant this side of Swiss) for late lunch... cuma tahu location kat Bahnhofstrasse.... lepa tu, jln2 cuci mata.. weather was fantastic... after that, around 8pm, we went to visit Abah's friend at Oerlikon...

Earth Day and My 34th Birthday!
|
|
Should I write something on my Birthday.. cam tak kena je writing about oneself and how older she becomes each day Never mind, well it's true I'm 34 years old today. I'm so happy with my beloved husband, two sons and hopefully by end of this year,a daughter? AMIN...AMIN... Yes, I'm also preggy now (nak masuk 3 months now)...
But I'm proud to say that I'm sharing my birthday with Earth Day celebration... nak kata I am 100% environmentally-friendly people, it's not true, but I tried to be environmentally-friendly.
| Quote: | | Earth Day is a name used for two different observances, both held annually during spring in the northern hemisphere, and autumn in the southern hemisphere. These are intended to inspire awareness of and appreciation for the Earth's environment. The United Nations celebrates Earth Day, which was founded by John McConnell in 1969, each year on the March equinox, while a global observance originated by Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in, and since January 1970 also called Earth Day, is celebrated in many countries each year on April 22, including the U.S. Responding to widespread environmental degradation, Gaylord Nelson, a United States Senator from Wisconsin, called for an environmental teach-in, or Earth Day, to be held on April 22, 1970. Over 20 million people participated that year, and Earth Day is now observed each year on April 22 by more than 500 million people and national governments in 175 countries. Senator Nelson, an environmental activist, took a leading role in organizing the celebration, hoping to demonstrate popular political support for an environmental agenda. He modeled it on the highly effective Vietnam War protests of the time.[6] The concept of Earth Day was first proposed in a memo to JFK written by Fred Dutton.[7] |

Day Trip to Fribourg, Switzerland (29Mar08)
|
|
Abahnya has been talking about going to Fribourg. We decided to visit Fribourg town itself especially the Old Town... It was beautiful and fantastic.. the town was built along hilly area and sungai called the Sarine river so the bulk of our time spent on turun bukit and naik bukit... luckily we brought along two strollers so that both Ashraf and Afif did not need to walk much... After few photo shots, we decided to head back to our parking place... tapi ibu tak larat nak naik bukit so we opted to take the furnicular train up... it was only two-minute journey but cantik tengok the old town sepanjang lereng bukit... very unique because the furnicular train operates using water... two furnicular trains balanced by each other...
More info of Fribourg from Wikipedia:
| Quote: | Fribourg (French), (German: Freiburg or Freiburg im Üechtland, often Fribourg) is the capital of the Swiss canton of Fribourg and the district of Sarine. It is located on both sides of the river Saane/Sarine, on the Swiss plateau, and is an important economic, administrative and educational center on the cultural border between German and French Switzerland (Romandy). Its Old City, one of the best maintained in Switzerland, sits on a small rocky hill above the valley of the Sarine.
Fribourg has an elevation of 581 meters (in the Old City), and is situated 28 kilometers southwest of Bern. It is located on the Swiss plateau, and extends on both sides of the Saane/Sarine River, which, in the vicinity of Fribourg, has cut deeply into the molasse. The Old City is located on a hill, only about 100 meters wide, which rises about 40 meters above the valley floor. Most quarters of the city are located on the High Plateau and the surrounding hills, which have an average elevation of 620m. The valley floor is only settled in the area immediately around the Old City.
Fribourg is a day trip destination for tourists who want to visit the sights of the city. These include the historic Old City with its Gothic Cathedral of Saint Nicholas, and the museums. The Natural History Museum was founded in 1873, and is now located in the natural sciences building at the University. The Museum of Art and History, located in the Ratzéhof since 1920, has exhibits on ancient and early history, sculpture and paintings, traditional tin figures, arts and crafts, as well as money and graphic collections. In the cathedral, a treasure chamber has been on display since 1992. Other museums include the Swiss Museum of Marionnettes, the Swiss Sewing Machine Museum, and a beer museum.
Fribourg has preserved its medieval center as a whole that is now one of the largest in Europe. It is located on a spectacular pensinula, surrounded on three sides by the Saane/Sarine river. The architecture of the Old City date primarily from the Gothic period; it was built predominately before the 16th century. Most houses are built of the local molasse stone. Consisting of the neighborhoods Bourg, Auge and Neuveville, its old town is rich in fountains and churches dating from the 12th century until the 17th century. Its Gothic cathedral, reaching 76 meters in height, was built between 1283 and 1490. The fortifications of Fribourg form the most important medieval military architecture of Switzerland: 2 kilometers of ramparts, 14 towers and one big bulwark. The protections are especially well preserved east and south of the city. |
